Nikon D3 Sensor Cleaning (3 of 3)

Nikon D3 Sensor Cleaning (3 of 3)

The Nikon service center charged US $28 and I got my camera back in 24 hours. Generally, it looks much better. There still are some spots (about a dozen or so) that I thought they would have removed. The numerous "blotchy" areas are now much less noticeable, except for one in the lower left of the photo (the upper right of the sensor) that has become more prominent.

I work in El Segundo so for me it is real easy to drop off my camera at the Nikon service center. Is $28 a fair price? I think so. Can I do it for less money? Yes (if I use swabs and PecPads that I can coordinate correctly). In the future will I let Nikon clean it or do it myself? Not sure, but I'll probably drop it off at the Nikon service center. I spend more on one-time use swabs then what Nikon charges for their cleaning. Perhaps next time I might experiment with Type 2 swabs wrapped with a PecPad wipe as that would be smaller and allow me better control. We'll see.

Black spot

Black spot

There is this weird black spot on my display.
I've never noticed it there before.
Two days ago a friend of mine saw it and pointed at it.
Neither of us has a clue why it is there and where it came from.
So we asked other people but no one had an answer.
I've asked the manufacturer but all I got was some lame excuse.
They said it is beyond their control.
They said it had to happen one day.
They said not to worry, I should just ignore it.
But what if there will be a second black spot tomorrow.
What if this one starts to grow?
What if I won't be able to see anything one day.

I am worried.

Delkin Devices DND300-P Pop-up Shade for Nikon D300

The DSLR Mini Pop-Up Shade is distinct from the other SLR Pop-Up Shades as it attaches to your camera with a non-residual adhesive. The adhesive does not damage the camera when the shade is removed, nor does it leave behind any film. An optically clear plastic protects your camera's screen, and the simple pop-up design allows for easy opening to block the glare. The unique two-part design enables easy removal of the shade while keeping the clear plastic in place for protection. It easily snaps on and off, and features an optically clear glass to protect your camera's screen. The simple pop-up design allows for easy opening to block the glare. Buttons on the Professional shade are aligned with your camera, to reduce the wear and tear on delicate parts and components.
